Hello, My name is Ella, and I am the most lovable dog of my blended family of 6. These 3 beautiful places to visit in Germany had already happened way before I was born. But I often hear the boys and my mom referring to this trip. It is described as my parent’s visit to my mom’s Castle. It is not like she is a princess or anything. Let us find out why and how her dream came true.

A little girls dream

My mom was in her teenage years when she first set her eyes on the very picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle. Always fascinated with European architecture depicting medieval monasteries and Renaissance castles, she promises herself that one day she would visit this castle. Let me remind you that we live in Canada and that my mom never travelled much or even visited anything outside our Country until she was an adult.

She became a Registered Nurse in 2003 and had Benjamin in 2007 followed by Nicholas in 2009. Travelling was not an option then since most of her money was going towards the family. In 2012 she became a single mom making it even more difficult for her to even dream that one day she might be able to travel to Germany.

Both my parents believe that everything happens for a reason. Most of you may know that she fell madly in love with my dad in 2014 and everything started to unfold beautifully. You can read about it in her previous blog: ‘’How I met Frank”.

While she was still working at the Hospital as a Clinical Research Nurse in Oncology, she had the opportunity to travel to Vienna Austria in 2016 to attend a conference associated with a new clinical study. Do I need to tell you that Vienna is no more than 4 hours away by train from the village of Hohenschwangau where the Neuschwanstein Castle is located?

Was it a coincidence that at the exact time my mom was attending her study in Vienna, my dad was also travelling to Belgrade for meetings? Because of this, they had planned to extend their stay to take a little vacation. Thankfully, the grandparents agreed to take care of the boys during their time away. Let’s look closer at 3 beautiful places to visit in Germany that you don’t want to miss.

3 Beautiful place to visit in Germany:

1. Salzburg

To start off this little vacation my dad met my mom in Vienna, and both made their way to Sulzburg. They had decided well before leaving to spend one night in Salzburg the hometown of Mozart and where they filmed the classic film, The Sound of Music. Apparently, when my mom was a child, she played this movie repeatedly. She knows pretty much all the lyrics.

If they would have known how beautiful Salzburg was, they would have planned to stay longer. To this day, my mom says it was the most beautiful place she visited. Her dream is to bring the whole family back to Salzburg one day. She believes travelling and making memories is the best gift of all. Maybe I will be able to join them too, but it might be too long of a plane ride for me. I do not mind staying with my grandparents and getting spoiled anyway.

2. Munich

The second stop brought them to Munich. My dad is a big car fanatic, so the BMW museum had to be part of their journey. Check out these cool pictures below:

They both love visiting local places and getting away from tourist attractions as well. They found this great beer garden where they enjoy local cooked food, music and of course beer.

3. Schwangau

Finally, the day came when my mom’s dream came true. They left early that morning to catch a train and then a bus in order to make it to their destination, the village of Hohenschwangau. This village is at the foot of the fortress, Schloss Neuschwanstein Castle! By surprise, there was not just one but two castles. Castle Neuschwanstein, which was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, had not even been completed before his death at the young of age 22. And there was also the Schloss Hohenschwangau Castle, where King Ludwig’s parents lived, King Max II and Queen Maria.

They spent the day walking the exact same trails noble ladies and gentlemen were trolling over 160 years ago. My mom says she was probably a princess in her previous life. Hence, the reason the boys call the Neuschwanstein ‘’Mom’s Castle”. It is a little joke between all of them. Here is a link for tourism information if you ever decide to take this magical trip to Germany to see these castles.

To conclude, as if the trip to Germany itself was not enough, my dad asked my mom to marry him at the foot of the Neuschwanstein castle. If that is not a fairy tale story, I do not know what it is. Of course, my mom said an absolute YES! And this is how these 3 beautiful places to visit in Germany also became a dream come true!

My mom said that this decision to get married changed everyone’s life. It provided a lot of clarity for some of the boys and seemed to create a sense of relief knowing that we were going to be a ‘real’ family. Now the boys and my parents know where they stand and who they are within this new blended family.
