Find The Perfect place to stay for your large family
My name is Ella. I’m the dog of our blended family of 6. Last summer, with the pandemic restriction to travel, we spent our time visiting our beautiful province. Our biggest challenge last year was to find a place to stay that could accommodate our large family and was also dog-friendly so that I could tag along. Therefore, our trips could only be day trips. With two adults and four teenage boys, we needed to return home afterward. Larger families, blended or not, encounter the same challenges as we do. We partnered up with some exceptional rental properties in New Brunswick that can accommodate at least six and are dog friendly to help you find that perfect place to stay with your large family or group.

Discovering Après Adventure
Last week we had the chance to spend some time at Après Adventure Chalet. This very welcoming and warm chalet is located in Waterford, just two short minutes from the fantastic ski resort, Poley Mountain. The chalet’s name suits this place so well. It’s the perfect retreat to unwind and relax after a full day of family adventures and experiences.
Met the owners
Jamie and Alex have been the super-host of this beautiful rental property since 2019. They are both outdoor enthusiasts. They love skiing, hiking and fly fishing, to name a few. Owning a rental property was one of their biggest dreams. You can certainly feel their pride in the ownership as they go above and beyond expectations to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable.
Jamie is undoubtedly talented with décor and has a precise eye for the details that go a long way. You will find a book so organized that you will not miss out on any adventures to discover throughout your stay. This book also includes a few hidden gems you might not have discovered otherwise.
Top reasons to stay at Après Adventure Chalet
Welcoming
The feeling we all had when we arrived was that this chalet was comforting, peaceful and full of life at the same time. Hearing the excitement from the boys and the birds singing while my parents unwound and got us all to settle in made my Mom smile. We felt at home.
The thought put into the amenities, and the attention to detail was evident in every room. The little added touches all started even before we walked in the front door. Right beside the BBQ, we found a basket with firewood. Snuggled into this basket was one of the most exciting finds for the boys: a Smores kit and some extra-large sparklers. The boys had some fun lighting the sparklers while enjoying their tasty smores by the fire.
Hanging on the entrance wall were two fully accessorized hiking backpacks, perfect for that hike in the nearby trails. We also found an essential oil diffuser in the master bedroom. There was some locally made hand soap in the bathroom that had that spa feeling and smelled terrific. The little extras didn’t stop there. In the kitchen, we stumbled across more great local products, a couple of locally made coffee mugs to go along with some local freshly ground coffee. Other amenities that could be found around the chalet were plenty of blankets, a washer toss game, and even a basket full of flip flops to be used to travel to and from the hot tub, to name a few.
Close to wonderful adventures
If you are looking for that perfect place to relax or looking to experience the incredible adventures the area offers, this is the ideal retreat for you since you can do both. This chalet is open year-round, and you will discover different experiences available through the seasons.
Accommodations
The chalet accommodates up to 6 people. There are two private rooms, each with a comfortable queen-size bed and one room with two single beds. Each room is cozy and has thoughtful décor with warm lighting. My Mom brought my dog bedroom, and I slept in the living room.
Top amenities Après Adventure Chalet has to offer.
This rental location has so much to offer. Everything you need and beyond to make this experience truly unforgettable.
Fully furnished kitchen
This kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, from pots and pans to oil, sugar and spices. Benjamin and my Mom enjoyed cooking and getting everything ready for all of us, including me.
BBQ and covered deck
We had access to BBQ with a full propane tank well situated under a fully covered patio and outdoor eating area.
Fully furnish bathroom
They had plenty of towels for the whole family with shampoo and soap. It was excellent and allowed us to pack light for a family of 6.
Hot-tub
We had access to a four-person hot tub on the back deck. This deck is also elegantly lit up at night. Also, there is a propane mosquito magnet that helps keep away those unwanted flying friends.
WIFI
Free WIFI was available with great reception throughout the property.
Firepit and substantial private backyard
This is an excellent area for some fresh air while relaxing. Lots of room to play games. The four boys enjoyed having a bonfire on the first night and played with sparklers in the backyard. During the day, they loved playing washer toss games in the large private backyard. The boys were discouraged that my Dad won them all.
Top attractions to visit close by Après Adventure Chalet
If you are looking for a peaceful relaxation retreat, you can do just that. However, if you are looking to discover new outdoor experiences, Waterford is just what you need. We spend most of our time enjoying the chalet. Next time we will plan more outdoor activities. Here are a few fun outdoor activities you will find:
Poley Mountain Family Resort
Poley Mountain is only two short minutes from the chalet. Since 2020 the mountain is also open to downhill Mountain Bike and hiking.
Skiing/snowboarding:
There are 30 skiing trails, four lifts, and they offer classes for beginners.
Hiking and Mountain biking trails:
Benjamin loves Moutain biking. He was disappointed we were not bringing his bike this time around. Poley Mountain has 8 Biking trails, each with a different level from easy to advanced. Here is the Biking trail map.
Hiking the Sussex Bluff
Seeing the Sussex Bluff is a must if you like hiking. The trail is approximative a 10 km drive from the chalet. The hike is 2 km one way, and on the top, there are several openings to view the picturesque Dutch Valley. The best part, it is also dog friendly.
Hiding gems
You will also find in Jamie’s book several hiding gems:
- Trout Creek Swimming hole
- Quiddy Falls
- Local eats and drinks: Knock Café, Gashof Old Bavarian, etc.
- Picadilly: We took the time to visit this small crafted coffee shop. My family found the coffee and hot chocolate delicious. They even bought fresh ground coffee to bring home. They had a very interesting Latte. My Mom had a Lavender Latte, and she loved it.
Final thoughs
Our experience at the Après Adventure was delightful. We enjoyed every minute of it. The time went by so fast, and we were sad that we had to leave. We had the chance to spend some quality time as a family around the fire pit and in the hot tub. My family played board games and relaxed altogether. We did not go hiking or biking this time around, but we are already planning to go back. My Mom and the boys have never downhill skied, so they are already planning a winter trip. If you consider planning a trip to this beautiful chalet, we recommend you reserve your spot sooner than later as they get fully booked very fast. You can book directly on their Airbnb page.
