How to Plan An Exciting Vacation In New Brunswick, Canada!

The Perfect Place To Stay For Larger Families

My name is Ella. I’m the dog of our blended family of 6. Last summer, with the pandemic restriction to travel, we spent our time visiting our beautiful province. Our biggest challenge last year was to find a place to stay that could accommodate our large family and was also dog-friendly so that I could tag along. Therefore, our trips could only be day trips. With two adults and four teenage boys, we needed to return home afterward. Larger families, blended or not, encounter the same challenges as we do. We partnered up with some exceptional rental properties in New Brunswick that can accommodate at least six and are dog friendly to help you find that perfect place to stay for larger families or group.

Discovering Caledonia Chalet

Ella’s Blende Family partnered with D.K.Rentals but know that all opinions are our own and we only promote companies or products we personally believe in.

Last weekend we had the chance to spend some time and enjoy a relaxing experience at Caledonia Chalet In Shenstone. The Chalet is about 45 minutes from the city of Moncton and 20 minutes from the town of Hillsborough. D.K Rental owns this serene cabin rental and is also a Superhost on Airbnb.  Kara and Mel are the two hosts behind this rental, operating and managing the Airbnb bookings and social media. There is great pride in making your stay extra enjoyable.

The handyman, Derek, creates and maintains the beautiful surrounding of this retreat. A brand new 10 person hot tub was installed just last week. We will talk more about this fantastic feature later on. The quality of the woodwork throughout this Chalet is stunning. The wood floors, handmade bunk beds, and rounded wood rails express a unique and peaceful cabin feel.

Top reasons to stay at Caledonia Chalet

Peaceful

If you are looking for the perfect place to get away from it all but close enough to visit some of the most breathtaking attractions in New Brunswick, this retreat is for you. This cabin is located in a wooded area up in the mountains. The property is private and spacious both inside and out. It can also accommodate more than ten people. Did I mention, it is also dog friendly? Bring along a leash as there is a lot of space for your furry friend to run and play catch. I wandered a little too far from my family’s comfort zone on the first night since I had so many new things to see and smell.

Close to popular attractions

The Chalet is open year-round. If you enjoy ATVs, this place is perfect for you during the spring, fall, and especially during winter. The NB trail system is just across the road. During the summer, there are a lot of popular attractions 25-45mins from the Chalet.

Accommodates ten people and more.

The sleeping accommodations were excellent. There are two private rooms, each with a comfortable queen-size bed, a loft with one queen-size bed, and a bunk bed with two double beds. The boys loved sleeping in the loft, looking over the downstairs.

Top amenities Caledonia Chalet have to offer

This Chalet has so much to offer. Everything you need and beyond to make this experience truly unforgettable.

Fully furnished kitchen

This kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need and more. There’s even a Keurig with freshly grounded coffee to please my mom. There were some everyday items you might need in the fridge, such as butter, sauces, milk, and more.

BBQ

We love barbecuing; when we arrived Friday, my Dad made hamburgers on the bbq outside while the boys played catch.

Washer and Dryer

If you plan on staying for an extended period, a great working washer and dryer is a must, especially with kids.

Fully furnish bathroom

They had plenty of towels for the whole family and a stand-up shower with shampoo and soap. It was excellent and allowed us to pack light for a family of 6.

Hot Tub

My family did not get the chance to enjoy this brand new hot tub for ten as it had just been put in. I’m sure you would enjoy this fantastic feature. Plus, the hot tub is on a huge screened patio, meaning no mosquitos while relaxing. We can’t wait to go back to try it out.

The enormous patio also has a table and a nice sitting area. Benjamin and Jacob spent some time playing board games outside while enjoying this patio.

WIFI

Although there is little to no cellphone reception, there is wifi available, and it works well inside and outside. So if you depend on your cellphone for work, find another alternative before departing, such as using email instead. It’s a great excuse to disconnect and enjoy this unique escape with your family or friends.

Firepit

The four boys love having a bonfire at night. We had no idea there would be a fire pit at Caledonia Chalet, but we were all pleased to arrive with this firepit already going. We hadn’t thought about bringing anything to make S’more, maybe next time.

Top attractions to visit close by Caledonia Chalet

If you are looking for a peaceful relaxation retreat, you can do just that. However, if you are looking to explore, there is plenty to see in the 25-45min ratio from the Chalet.

Fundy National Park

Explore the world’s largest tides, where you can either be kayaking on high tide or walking on the fascinating mudflats left exposed at low tide. Fundy Park is also known for its fantastic trail system. Laverty Fall hiking trail is one of our favorite with curtain waterfalls and swimming holes.

Hopewell Rock

Hopewell Rock is one of New Brunswick’s top attractions. Famous for their flowerpot-shaped rocks, you can walk 2 km of beachline and explore several caves during low tide. There are also plenty of activities during high tide too. Make sure to check low tide times before your visit, as you won’t want to miss exploring the beach. The tides come and go at different times during the day.

Dennis Beach

A beach that locals and visitors love and enjoy. The sand is clean, and during the summer, the water is ready for you if you like to swim.

Cape Enrage

Explore the marine wonders of Fundy with the spectacular views from the towering cliff of the Cape Enrage. You can even enjoy the view of the Bay of Fundy by ziplining on a 183 meters long zip line. Talk about a trill!

Cinnamon Soul Café

My family was very excited to visit this local coffee shop 20 minutes from the Cabine. We planned to have lunch before we returned home. The cute and colorful little shop sure impresses us all. The service was excellent; they are dog friendly and even brought water on the patio for me.

Final toughs

Our experience at the Caledonia Chalet was terrific. It was peaceful, and Kara, Derek, and Mel were excellent hosts. We had the chance to reconnect with nature and spend quality time as a family. We played board games and relaxed altogether. It is a perfect place to stay for larger families. If you are planning a trip to this serene Chalet, book sooner than later.
