Our Family Top 5 Board Games for Halloween
My name is Ella. I am the dog of our blended family of 6. This year will be my second Halloween with my family. I was hoping to dress up and go trick or treating with the boys, but the pandemic situation chose otherwise. My family decided they will celebrate this Halloween at home with a family game night. If you have been following us, you will understand that we are board game lovers. Board games have become a way for us to bond and spend quality time as a family. Bonding is crucial for any family and especially when two families become one. Asmodee is a well-known and highly respected and one of our family’s favourite games publishers. Top 5 Board Games to enjoy this Halloween
#1: Best of the Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow
- Age: 10+
- Players: 8-47
- Duration: Approx. 30 minutes
My family has been playing “Best of the Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow” for years now, even well before I was part of the family. The four boys get extremely excited each time they play. It can be played with 8 to 47 players. It’s a role-playing card game where among the players there are werewolves and villagers. Without knowing the other player’s card, they need to try to identify who are the werewolves. This needs to be done before the werewolves eliminate all the villagers and other special characters from the village. If the villagers find the werewolves before they all get killed, the villagers win. If they fail to do so, the werewolves win the game.
#2: Mysterium
- Age:10+
- Players: 2-7
- Duration: Approx. 45 minutes
This game was very recently discovered by my family. The mission is to find the killer of a victim who is now haunting the manor. One player plays the part of the Ghost while all the others are all psychics. The premise is that they gather to recreate that faithful night. They receive hints from the ghost who sends them visions through the help of cards in order to help them solve the mystery. All players only have 7 turns to unravel the truth. Time is against them as they need to complete the mission by sunrise before the ghost disappears. Mysterium won the Gold Ace of the year in 2016 at Cannes.
#3 Mysterium Park
- Age:10+
- Players:2-6
- Duration: Approx. 20 minutes
Mysterium Park is like Mysterium but a simplified and quicker version with no time limit. The game takes place in an amusement park surrounded by cotton candy, a circus, and mystery. The premise is that the director has disappeared, and his ghost now haunts the carnival. The case has gone cold, and the investigators have not found any suspects. The psychics are called in and get together and try to reveal the truth with the help of the ghost’s vision. Our family has already played multiple rounds of this game. It brought a lot of laughter as the ghost visions played by Jacob were sometimes quite blurry.
#4 Obsurio
- Age:10+
- Players: 2-8
- Duration: Approx. 45 minutes
If your family likes wizards and sorcerers, the game Obsurio is for you. Most players are Wizards, and they are trapped in a library. It’s a team cooperative game. In order to escape and win the game, the players will all need to work together as a team but be careful as there is a traitor amongst the group who will try to trick everyone and prevent them from escaping.
#5 Unlock – Escape Adventure
- Age: 10+
- Players: 1-6
- Duration: 60 minutes
Do you like Escapes rooms? All Unlock games from Cyril Demaegd let you live these experiences in the comfort of your own kitchen table. There are three captivating escape adventure games in each box, and it required a free App to play. Once the application is downloaded, no internet connection is necessary to play. Unlock is a team-playing and cooperative game. My family loves solving puzzles and it took them a little more than 60 minutes to complete their first mission. So, whether you choose to play in a secret laboratory, ruin the plan of a despicable cartoon professor or the island of an eccentric billionaire on Halloween night, you will get a ton of fun.
